Union Township, PA (July 23, 2018) On Monday afternoon, at approximately 12:42 p.m., a multi-vehicle collision occurred on Interstate 79. A man named Matthew Tagliaferro crashed his SUV into a motorcyclist named Dempsey Bruce. Bruce was stopped at a red light at Milepost 143 when Tagliaferro rear-ended him. The impact ejected Bruce from his motorcycle, and officials state he wasn’t wearing a helmet. Tagliaferro also rear-ended a station wagon driven by a man named John Armstrong.
The Meadville Area Ambulance transported Tagliaferro to Meadville Medical Center and transported Bruce to UPMC Hamot hospital. Armstrong suffered no injuries.
Tagliaferro received a citation for speeding.
Although drivers have a responsibility to be aware of their surroundings, the number one cause of car accidents is always a form of negligent driving. Drivers commit negligence by speeding, using a cell phone, talking to another passenger, eating, driving under the influence, or looking at something else other than the road. Because Bruce’s injuries were a result of Tagliaferro’s speeding, Bruce could file a personal injury lawsuit against Tagliaferro. The police citation he received proves he committed a negligent act.
