mother/daughter pedestrian accidentToday in Scranton, there was a mother/daughter pedestrian crash involving a moving vehicle. The police have commented and said on the matter that the mother and her 7-year-old daughter were both recovering from the accident after being hit by the vehicle. Two witnesses watched the accident occur when they were getting home. Both the mother and the daughter suffered injuries as a result of the accident. Investigators are looking into why the accident occurred.

Unfortunately, there is another angle to this accident: a wide variety of accidents happening in this area over the years. In February 2015, a woman was killed trying to cross the street (South Main Avenue) only a few blocks down. In August 2016, a man riding his bike was hit and killed there as well. Many witnesses have commented on the fact that a lot of drivers speed down that roadway, making it dangerous for pedestrians.

Accidents Involving Pedestrians

Just as in the accident involving the mother/daughter pedestrian crash, many accidents involving pedestrians occur every single year, some of which stem from speeding vehicles and distracted drivers not paying attention to the roadways. In 2016, pedestrian traffic accidents raised to nearly 6,000 people injured over a year’s span. This means that pedestrian accidents are on the rise, each one carrying its own risks, and serious injuries.

Pedestrians are extremely vulnerable to accidents on our roadways because they are offered no protections like those who drive motor vehicles, trucks, and more. If you are a pedestrian who has been injured in a serious accident involving a driver, you may have a case against them, especially if negligence was at play. Some of the damages you may see in these accidents may include medical bills, out-of-pocket expenses, lost income, mental suffering, and more. In cases where the pedestrian has been killed, you may be able to bring a wrongful death claim on behalf of your loved one for the losses you have accrued due to their death.

Pedestrian accidents are handled very seriously under the law. If you have been injured and want to gain compensation for your damages, call us today at Edelstein Martin & Nelson. We are waiting to hear from you so we can move forward with your case at 888-208-1810.
