Melody M. Irizarry Dead in Penn Township Accident on Route 72 near Manheim
Lancaster County, Pennsylvania (July 31, 2017) – A 27-year-old mother, was killed and her two toddlers rescued on Monday morning after her car collided with a tractor-trailer in Penn Township, according to the police.
The accident took place at about 9:15 a.m. July 24, across from Morgan Automotive, 850 Lancaster Road on Route 72 south of Manheim.
The mother, identified as Melody M. Irizarry was pronounced dead at the crash site by a county coroner.
A witness said that rescuers pulled the toddlers aged 3 and 18 months from the back seat of a silver four-door sedan which stopped with some of its part under the rear tires of the trailer.
The child, 3, was hospitalized at Hershey Medical Center in critical condition while the other child was treated at Lancaster General Hospital.
Carlos Rodriguez, 47, driver of the tractor was not seriously hurt and was taken to Heart of Lancaster.
Route 72 between Bucknell and Sun Hill roads was blocked by police. Many electrical poles were broken, and power lines had fallen.
The crash remained under an investigation by authorities to determine the cause of the incident.
