Arturo F. Garcia Killed and Scott A. McCord Injured Ashland Fatal Crash at Ohio 511 and County Road 1600
Ashland, Pennsylvania (August 29, 2017) – One person died, and another was injured in a crash that occurred Monday in Ashland, Montgomery Township.
The collision occurred at 5:38 a.m. Monday, August 28 at Ohio 511 and County Road 1600.
Troopers from the Ashland post of the Ohio Highway Patrol are investigating the accident.
Police reported that Arturo F. Garcia, 41, of Canonsburg was driving a 2010 Toyota Corolla south on Ohio 511. At the same time, Scott A. McCord, 32, of Ashland was traveling west on County Road 1600 in a 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt.
McCord failed to observe a stop sign on County Road 1600 at Ohio 511 and hit Garcia’s vehicle on the driver’s door. The impact caused the Toyota to travel off the right side of the roadway and strike a utility pole.
Meanwhile, the Chevrolet also traveled off the right side of the roadway and stopped on the right side.
Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene. McCord was transported to University Hospital Samaritan by Ashland Fire Department for treatment. He was later transferred to University Hospitals Cleveland.
The collision halted traffic on Ohio 511 for about three hours.
The crash is under an active investigation.
