Few people assume that they are at risk of being struck by a vehicle while inside of a building. Nevertheless, a highly unexpected tragedy occurred this afternoon when a Jeep crashed through the side of a medical center in Washington County, killing one and injuring the driver and one other. The motor vehicle accident happened at 12:32 in Washington, Pa.
According to police, a red Jeep Liberty barreled down a hill and rolled over bushes before crashing through the side of Building 1 at Neighborhood Health Center, located at 95 Leonard Avenue. Kimberly Dollard, 57, was struck while working in the registration office. She was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:23 p.m. A patient at the clinic was also struck and taken to a hospital in Pittsburgh by helicopter. The injured patient was conscious on the stretcher though likely facing serious or even catastrophic injuries.
Officials had to wait for a civil engineer in order to be instructed on how to remove the vehicle without causing structural damage to the building. The driver of the vehicle suffered minor injuries, and the reason for the crash is still under investigation. In any event, extreme negligence is to blame, and the driver will certainly be held accountable.
